Do You Know How PUR Hot Melt Adhesive Works?

PUR adhesives are reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesives. However, what sets PUR adhesives apart is that they react with moisture in the air and continue to cure over the next 24-48 hours, providing a stronger bond than traditional hot melt adhesives. They are single-component synthetic specialty adhesives that offer the strength of structural adhesives combined with the application speed of hot melt adhesives. Similar to conventional hot melt adhesives, PUR adhesives are heated until they reach a liquid state, then applied to a substrate, forming a bond as the adhesive cools.

Depending on the application, they can be sprayed or extruded using spray guns or bulk dispensing equipment. PUR hot melt adhesives are available in cartridges or blocks and, due to their reactive nature, must be heated and applied using specialized PUR hot melt adhesive equipment. Spray guns are used for smaller applications, being more affordable and easier to use. PUR adhesives are ideal for applications requiring high strength and resistance to plasticizers, permanent bonding, and bonding difficult substrates. They can bond many substrates, including wood, fabric, leather, metal, glass, ceramics, and some plastics such as polystyrene and polyacrylic. These adhesives are used in numerous applications across many industries, including automotive, filters, door and window manufacturing, flooring, textiles, panel assembly, woodworking, edge banding, home repairs, bookbinding, and even packaging applications. Bulk equipment is used for automated or high-volume dispensing applications but is more expensive, harder to use, and offers less flexibility in movement and application.
